Sony Detects Unauthorized Sign-In Attempts [General News]

Following the recent hacker attack that kept Sony Online Entertainment offline for two weeks in May, Sony has"detected a large amount of unauthorized sign-in attempts on PlayStation Network (PSN), Sony Entertainment Network (SEN) and Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) services."The activity occurred between October 7-10 and was an attempt to validate account information that was apparently stolen from other sources. Credit card numbers associated with these accounts are not at risk. Here are the main details from Sony's press release : "Less than one tenth of one percent of our PSN, SEN and SOE consumers may have been affected. There were approximately 93,000 accounts (PSN/SEN: approximately 60,000 accounts; SOE: approximately 33,000) where the attempts succeeded in verifying those accounts’ valid sign-in IDs and passwords, and we have temporarily locked these accounts. Starting at 12:01am PDT on Thursday, October 13, ghouls and goblins can be seen creeping around the city streets in Norrath as Nights of the Dead returns once again. Put on your favorite costume or illusion and join in the festivities with your fellow players! Familiar faces from years past have returned offering their quests, games and wares. Repeatable quests from prior years now have a new reward choice along with a couple of bonus plushies in the original Haunted House. New this year is a Flora vs. Undead themed quest as well as an updated version of last year's Devotee challenge. Crafters will be pleased to hear that the new Celebrations of the Dead IV scroll offers 19 additional recipes that are sure to make your home scream in delight. Beastlords disappeared from Norrath as the Truespirit, powerful spirit guides, retreated along with the gods. Since the Age of Cataclysm, their power has been slowly re-entering the world, but their very existence was in danger from a corruption called the Blight. In the first half of the Beastlord Prelude event adventurers assisted the wise spirits Ilfanul and Ravinus with eliminating the Blight through a ritual cleansing. The Truespirit calls forth those brave adventurers again to further assist with the Third Awakening of the Beastlords. Harbingers of this Awakening will test whether or not these people are are worthy of introducing the teachings of the Bonding rituals between Beastlord and Warder to Norrath. Antonica found itself bustling with activity early on October 1st as the Far Seas caravans arrived to celebrate the Qeynos City Festival. The Flying Freebooters have joined the festivities and the Aether Racing course is once again available this month. The Aether Race and City Festival run concurrently and both end at 11:59pm PDT on October 7th. Next week the Nights of the Dead will be upon us, bringing with it many spooky tricks and treats. All of the quests introduced in prior years will make a return along with a new flora versus undead quest. New crafts and decorations will keep your home screaming with glee. Nights of the Dead will run from October 13th through November 7th. The phases of the moon will reveal the mysterious grottos again later in the month and their denizens will gladly offer you some tasks to perform. DUNGEON FINDER Dungeon Finder is a matchmaking system designed to make it easier for groups to get together for dungeons. The system requires a minimum of six people to be using the system to create groups. To use the Dungeon Finder, click the“Dungeon Finder” button from the EQII menu on your XP bar. (Or open the"Zones"menu by using ALT+Z.) Tomorrow is the beginning of October, bringing us the Qeynos City Festival ! The festival begins on October 1st at 12:01am PDT and runs until October 7th at 11:59pm PDT. You can find the Far Seas Caravan in Antonica just beyond the bridge to North Qeynos. There are no new items available this month. Visit the Far Seas caravan merchants to see all of the local specialities and other festival goods. An Aether Race will also be available in Antonica during the festival. Participate and achieve a time of 134 seconds or less to earn the Bridge Buzzer prefix title! Begin the race by speaking to the referee near the Coldwind Point Lighthouse.

This morning at 6am PDT (9am EDT/2pm BST) SOE will have a 2.5 hour maintenance on their commerce and subscription services. The maintenance may also affect authentification on the official forums. Here is their announcement : Beginning September 29, 2011 at 6:00 a.m. subscription and commerce services will be unavailable for maintenance. We expect this maintenance to take approximately two and half hours. This may also cause some forum accounts to temporarily lose permissions, due to the inability to verify account status while the maintenance is taking place. This is only temporary and normal permissions will return automatically once the maintenance is complete. We apologize for this interruption and will resume all affected services as soon as the maintenance is completed.
